KUCHING, May 8: A damaged concrete walkway in Green Heights that had raised safety concerns among residents has been successfully repaired, thanks to swift action by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and funding support from Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap.

The walkway at Lorong Stampin Tengah 5/3B, which had developed serious structural cracks, was first brought to MBKS’ attention through a public complaint lodged on February 21 this year.

Following the report, MBKS immediately conducted site investigations and assessments. As the council explored repair options, discussions with Yap resulted in his commitment to fund the repair works for the benefit of residents.

MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, who conducted a final inspection of the completed project today alongside Yap and MBKS engineers, described the case as a clear example of what can be achieved when the community, elected representatives, and local authorities work together.

“We thank the residents for highlighting the issue and for their patience. This is a good example of effective collaboration between the council, elected representatives, and the community,” he said in a press release today.

During the visit, Wee also urged the public to lodge complaints through official channels for quicker response, while discouraging unnecessary finger-pointing when addressing community issues.

Residents expressed appreciation for the prompt action taken, with many relieved that the hazardous stretch has now been safely restored. — DayakDaily
