KUCHING, May 8: Tech tycoon and philanthropist Bill Gates was recently seen sampling durian—widely known as the “King of Fruits”—during a visit to Singapore earlier this week, sparking a wave of reactions online.
A video clip of Gates at Newton Food Centre shows him seated at a table, surrounded by security personnel and other diners.
He is seen lifting a piece of durian to his nose and taking in the smell.
He then takes not one but two bites, chews thoughtfully, and gently sets the fruit down.
The clip, posted by TikTok user @rebecca89292 on Tuesday morning (May 6), has since garnered over 1.1 million views.
The caption reads: “Who is this old man, so many people came to take his photo #singapore #whoisthis #durian.”
News portal CNA reported that Gates was accompanied by a film crew during his visit to Newton Food Centre, where he also tried chicken rice and satay.
Gates, who co-founded Microsoft in 1975, became the world’s first centibillionaire in 1999. His current net worth is listed by Forbes at USD112.5 billion (RM481 billion), making him the world’s 13th richest person. — DayakDaily
