Mother and son arrested in Miri for drug trafficking, RM57,500 worth of syabu seized

MIRI, Oct 4: The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) Sarawak has apprehended a 60-year-old woman and her 39-year-old son for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

The operation led to the seizure of the drug methamphetamine, locally known as syabu,  valued at RM57,500 at a residence in Tudan on Tuesday morning (October 3).

Miri police chief OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu reported in a statement released late on Tuesday that the duo was taken into custody at 8:30am at their residence.

“During a thorough search of the premises, the police discovered transparent plastic bags containing crystal lumps suspected to be syabu, weighing approximately 287.50 grammes,” Alexson stated.

In addition to the drugs, the police also confiscated assets valued at RM88,478, including a Benelli motorcycle, jewelry, and cash.

Both suspects are currently under remand for seven days, from Oct 4 to 10, as part of the investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — DayakDaily
