KUCHING, July 28: The Ministry of Tourism (Motac) wants to turn villages in the country into potential tourism destinations.
Its Minister Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said this will offer a unique traditional experience of a real village atmosphere to tourists.
“This is one of the ways to put together an attractive tourism package, while bringing benefits and profits to the local community through job opportunities and stimulating economic growth,” he said when attending to the mock cheque presentation ceremony for the allocation of World Heritage Site Preservation Program recognised by Unesco to the States of Penang and Malacca today.
Meanwhile, Tiong said that the historic cities of Melaka and George Town, which were recognised in 2008 as Unesco World Heritage Sites, bring many benefits and advantages, including being able to raise Malaysia’s visibility in the eyes of the world as a tourism product capable of providing economic opportunities to the country.
As such, he hoped that all other states can do their best and upgrade what is needed this year.
“Whatever issues or constraints arise, need to be resolved immediately as a team and myself and Motac are ready to help,” he added.
In his speech, Tiong also emphasised preserving the country’s good image, which plays an important role in the tourism sector.
“Therefore, I try my best to help these states maintain a good image and become an attractive tourist destination continuously, as well as improve what is lacking,” he said. — DayakDaily
