KUCHING, May 3: Most of the Covid-19 cases in Kapit reported yesterday were identified via close contacts of Covid-19 positive cases.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing in a Facebook post said 25 out of the 37 cases recorded in Kapit were from close contacts of positive cases.

“There are five new cases from the Jalan Selirik Cluster and two cases from the Putai Cluster.

“There was also one case from symptomatic screening and four cases from other screenings,” he said yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Jalan Selirik Cluster involved a boarding secondary school was declared on April 23. The index case is a 15-year-old student whose status was detected via symptomatic screening.

It was reported that the spread of Covid-19 occurred due to a ‘gotong-royong’ on April 4 at the school whereby there was a gathering involving students and staff of the school.

As for the Putai Cluster declared on April 25, it involved construction workers at the Baleh hydroelectric power dam construction site. — DayakDaily
