KUCHING, Oct 30: More vulnerable people will be eligible for the monthly welfare assistance under Social Welfare Department (JKM) following the raise of poverty line.

The welfare assistance eligibility under the JKM had been raised to the 2019 food poverty line of RM1,169 instead of RM980 according to the 2016 poverty line.

“The use of the new poverty line instead of the 2016’s will certainly enable more vulnerable people to receive monthly welfare assistance,” said Sarawak Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah in a statement today.

She described the 2022 Budget as a “welfare and recovery-oriented budget” as it is a manifestation of a government that understands the suffering of the people as a result of Covid-19, especially vulnerable groups.

“The government not only understands but is committed to help alleviate the suffering and then rise again, continuing to survive with confidence that the government is with the people in the process.

“This is translated into targeted assistance for low-income groups, single mothers, senior citizens, and economic assistance/capital for women involved in entrepreneurship through TekunNita, DanaNita and Mykasih,” she added. ā€” DayakDaily
