KUCHING, July 23: More than 50 per cent of the the Pan Borneo Highway project involving the package from Sematan to Miri has been implemented, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
According to Fadillah, the first phase of the project involving Telok Melano to Sematan package was completed on January 2019.
“Meanwhile, as of June 2020, the progress for 10 other work packages involving projects from Sematan to Miri, that are currently being implemented is at 52 per cent,” said Fadillah in reply to a question raised by Yusuf Abd Wahab (GPS-Tanjong Manis) in parliament, today.
Fadillah said that the current government still respected the changes made by the previous government on the implementation of Pan Borneo Highway project, which was expected to provide savings to the government, without the need to pay for PDP fees.
However, he said, the changes in the implementation model did not involve the consideration of other matters that affected the project management, such as contract changes, the welfare of the staffs involved, and the need to improve the existing technical expertise and capacity.
“Following that, mitigation plans and continuous follow-up action are being carried out in order to improve the implementation methods, to ensure the smoothness and sustainability of the Sarawak and Sabah Pan Borneo Highway project as a catalyst for the development of the socio-economic, industrial and investment sectors,” he added.—DayakDaily.
