A total of 405 colouring books and 120 boxes of crayons were received by SK Abun Matu headmaster Cikgu Awang Omar at the Belaga District Education Office (PPD) yesterday afternoon, witnessed by PPD head officer Cikgu Thomas Uning.
SK Abun Matu, Awang Omar said, accommodates approximately 430 students from around the area.
The remaining 607 books and two bags of soft toys were sent by Thomas, on behalf, to the Sekapan Peit longhouse, located about 11 minutes from Belaga town, housing 57 Sekapan families.
According to Temenggung Ajang Sirek, who is from Sekapan Peit, there are only about 2,000 of the Sekapan populace left in Belaga.

Prior to that, Belaga district officer Bidah Lujah received all donations from DayakDaily journalist Christopher Bishop, witnessed by Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong and Belaga assemblyman Datuk Liwan Lagang at the Belaga Waterfront.
Under the ‘Bless Rural Children with Your Books & Soft Toys’ event, which is co-organised by DayakDaily and Pertubuhan Wartawan Bebas Kuching (Pewarta), two DayakDaily journalists-cum-Pewarta members drove from Kuching since Aug 3 to transport the donated items.
The project was made possible due to the generous efforts and kindness of many, including Liwan, who is also Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications, Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), Ibraco Berhad, and Pewarta.
DayakDaily and Pewarta wish to express their utmost gratitude to all sponsors and contributors, including DayakDaily readers who also took part in the donation. — DayakDaily
