Missing man found drowned a kilometre away from fishing boat in Sungai Lemai, Balingian

KUCHING, June 4: The search for a man who went missing during a fishing trip at Sungai Lemai, Balingian came to a tragic end this afternoon when his body was found floating approximately one kilometre from his boat.

According to a report by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the man, 47-year-old Lembat Anak Antas from Rumah Juki, Sungai Lemai Kudat, was reported missing on June 2 after he failed to return home from a fishing trip along Sungai Lemai.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched, and on the second day of the operation (June 4), three rescue personnel in full personal protective equipment conducted a surface search using a boat, covering a three-kilometre radius from where the victim’s boat was discovered.

At approximately 2.30pm, Lembat’s body was found floating in the river, around one kilometre from his boat. His remains were handed over to the police for further action.
