KUCHING, Nov 2: Five fishermen and three boat crew members reported missing during a fishing trip have been found safe after being stranded in open water due to an engine failure.
Kuching District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said in a statement today that a friend of one of the victims was able to reach them at 1.45pm, confirming they were safe.
“The boatās engine failed on their return from the fishing trip on Oct 31,” he stated.
“The boat was later towed back to Samariang Batu Jetty, arriving safely at 5.25pm.”
Earlier in the day, a joint search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), and local community members to locate the missing group. ā DayakDaily
