Missing child’s mother, guardian detained by police to assist in investigation

KUCHING, March 11: The mother of a four-year-old boy who was reported missing in Bintawa was among two individuals detained to assist in the investigation.

It is understood that Dynasty Chang, the mother of victim Eric Chang Wei Jie, was detained on March 9 along with a friend who was also the victim’s guardian.

The two suspects are currently being remanded for further investigation under Section 31 (1) of the Child Act 2001.


Yesterday, Kuching District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah confirmed that his department had arrested two individuals in connection with the case.

He said that the search for the victim, which was also joined by the PDRM K9 Unit and the victim’s family members, was still ongoing.

The victim was previously reported missing from their house in Taman Riverview Bintawa in Jalan Daya on March 7 (Monday) at 7.42pm.

The victim was said to be wearing a dark blue round neck T-shirt and black knee-length shorts.
