Missing boy’s babysitter to remain in custody until March 24

KUCHING, March 17: The babysitter of missing four-year-old Eric Chang will remain in custody for another week until March 24.

According to Kuching Police District Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah in a statement, the search and rescue (SAR) operation at Muara Tebas has also yielded no results until now.

Today marks the fifth day of an integrated search for Eric involving the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the marine police which began on Sunday (March 13).


Over the past two days, a Bomba K9 unit has been deployed in the vicinity after the missing boy’s babysitter admitted to knowing his whereabouts.

Eric was reported missing from Taman Riverview, Bintawa on March 7. Four days later on March 11, four suspects including Eric’s parents and babysitter were arrested to assist in investigations.

On March 13, there was a dramatic turn of events when it was reported that Eric’s body was believed to have been dumped at the Muara Tebas pier by two suspects, who remain in police custody.

The same day, the investigation was reclassified from under Section 31(1)(1) of the Child Act 2001 for negligence and neglect of child care to Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. — DayakDaily
