SARIKEI, Jan 20: The body of a 71-year-old man from Rumah Nugu Kerubong here was found in a river today after he was reported to have gone missing when he didn’t return from his orchard yesterday (Jan 19).
According to a Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) report, the operations commander reported that the victim, Rampai Jeti, was found by the public at around 7am in a stream 500 metres from where he was last seen.
The SAR team retrieved the body and handed it to the police for further action.
At around 8am yesterday, the victim went to his orchard alone and failed to return by 4pm.
His relative went to the orchard to look for him but failed to locate him, prompting a report to be filed on the same day.
“A call on the incident was received at 7.05pm and firefighters from the Sarikei station were deployed to mount a search and rescue (SAR) operation,” said the report. — DayakDaily
