KUCHING, Jan 20: Mirians have been urged to protect their city from going from bad to worse in view of the Covid-19 situation in the city.
Minister for Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian reminded Mirians to stay vigilant and take precautions to ensure that the Movement Control Order (MCO) will not be imposed on the city.
“Looking at the current Covid-19 progress, it will have to be (an) extraordinary effort for Sibu to be out of MCO by January 26.
“We need (the) people of Miri to put in extraordinary effort not to be in MCO.
“Sibu and Miri faith (sic) of Covid-19 pandemic is in the hands of the local people,” he said in a Facebook post.
Meanwhile, Dr Sim is working from home until January 22 due to a home stay order (HSO) issued by the State Health Department as a result of coming into close contact with a Covid-19 patient on January 8 who later tested positive on January 15.
Dr Sim underwent a swab test at the Batu Kawa health clinic on January 17.
On January 11, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced that Miri will be under a Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) from January 13 until January 26 due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.
Yesterday, the committee revealed that there was a new cluster of Covid-19 identified in Miri known as the Rakut Cluster which has 10 cases tested positive, 33 individuals screened while 16 individuals were awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test.
The committee added that there were also 28 new cases of Covid-19 reported in Miri while 278 patients were being treated in Miri Hospital for coronavirus, the second highest total in the state after Sibu Hospital. — DayakDaily
