KUCHING, June 9: Motorists with clean driving records may soon enjoy additional savings on their motor insurance premiums under a new government initiative designed to reward safe and responsible driving.

According to The Star, Federal Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that the Cermat Madani initiative will offer eligible low-risk drivers an extra insurance premium rebate of up to 10 per cent, based on assessments conducted through the MyJPJ application.

The additional rebate will be granted on top of the existing No Claim Discount (NCD), which can reach up to 55 per cent, allowing qualified motorists to receive total premium reductions of as much as 65 per cent.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative today in Kuala Lumpur, Loke said an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven risk assessment system could also help reduce the base premium paid by motorists who achieve high safety scores.

He said the programme is founded on the principle that drivers who obey traffic laws, maintain good driving records, and consistently prioritise road safety should be recognised and rewarded.

According to Loke, the initiative aims to promote a culture of safer and more responsible driving by leveraging relevant data and technology to assess vehicle insurance risks more accurately.

He added that rewarding safe driving behaviour could encourage motorists to comply with speed limits, obey traffic signals, avoid repeat offences and become more accountable road users.

“Road safety is not merely about statistics or numbers. It concerns human lives, the safety of families and the well-being of communities,” he said. — DayakDaily
