Miri to host Miss Grand Malaysia 2019

Christine Yee, 21, who is of Chinese and Kayan parentage, won the Miss Grand Miri 2019 title by besting 13 others and automatically qualifies for the Miss Grand Sarawak 2019 finals in March.

MIRI, Feb 11: The annual Miss Grand Malaysia pageant will be held here for the first time this April 28.

The 2019 national pageant will feature 24 contestants from all over the country vying for the coveted Miss Grand Malaysia 2019 title and the right to represent the country at the annual Miss Grand International pageant, the third largest pageant in the world offering cash prizes worth $40,000 and a one year stay at a luxurious condominium in Bangkok, Thailand, where the headquarters of Miss Grand International Organisation is situated.

Debra Jeanne Poh, the reigning Miss Grand Malaysia 2018, will be crowning her successor in Miri.


Miss Grand Malaysia 2019 will feature 24 contestants from all over the country vying for the coveted crown and the opportunity to represent the country at the Miss Grand International 2019 event to be held in October.

“Miri is always welcoming for exciting events such as Miss Grand Malaysia, which is an opportunity for Miri to showcase its best attraction to all Malaysians and the world. We fully support Miss Grand Malaysia Organisation’s idea and intention to stage the national pageant, which will be held for a week and become the kick-off to the annual Miri May Fest,” said Miri mayor Adam Yii at the grand coronation of Miss Grand Miri 2019 at Meritz Hotel here.

Also expected to attend the Miss Grand Malaysia 2019 event is reigning Miss Grand International 2018, Clara Sosa from Paraguay. She is expected to be accompanied by Nawat Itsaragrisil, President of Miss Grand International Organisation.

The 24 contestants of Miss Grand Malaysia 2019 will be selected through state-level pageants, which are currently being held in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Johor, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak.

Clara Sosa, Miss Grand International 2018 from Paraguay, is expected to attend the grand coronation of Miss Grand Malaysia 2019 in Miri on April 28.

One of Sarawak’s hopefuls, 21-year-old student Christine Yee was crowned Miss Grand Miri and will compete at the Sarawak state-level finals.

Yee, who stands at 173cm bested 13 other contestants for the title and hopes to win the coveted crown at the national pageant by capitalising on her hometown advantage.
