“Secondly, the port can be a stop for luxury cruise ships such as the current Royal Caribbean Cruises that goes to the north of Peninsular Malaysia and the south of Thailand.

“It can also be the ships’ starting route to Indonesia and then can stop in Miri. This means that they can provide facilities for tourists who use cruise ships,” he was reported as saying in a press conference after the earth-breaking ceremony for the proposed dredging and associated works at Batang Baram Delta here today.

Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who is the Sarawak Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD), as well as Minister of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

Meanwhile, when speaking at the event, Abang Johari said Sarawak’s income is expected to increase this year compared to RM13.3 billion last year.

He pointed out that the details will be announced during the tabling of the Sarawak Budget 2025 in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting in November. — DayakDaily
