In a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin revealed that as of January 2024, the service has recorded 72,329 total riders, reflecting a strong and positive response from the community.

He emphasised that the initiative aligns with the Sarawak government’s commitment to strengthening urban mobility and promoting a more sustainable future.

“The Miri City Smart Bus was introduced to provide efficient, affordable, and environmentally friendly public transport.

“This initiative benefits local residents, particularly low-income groups, students, and tourists, while also helping to reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions,” he said in an exclusive interview with MiriFM (KITA 1.0), RTM Miri, in conjunction with World Radio Day 2025 on Tuesday (Feb 18).

To further enhance Miri’s public transport system, the Miri Sentral Bus Terminal, located along the Miri Bypass, officially began operations on Jan 18, 2025, replacing the Pujut Bus Terminal.

“The new terminal features modern facilities, including 12 ticket counters, 12 retail outlets, 14 bus platforms, two cafés, a spacious and comfortable waiting area, and disabled-friendly public toilets,” Lee stated.

To improve operational efficiency, Konsortium Bas Express (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd (KBE) has implemented the Easybook Terminal Management (ETM) system, allowing passengers to purchase tickets online, at counters, and via smartphone applications.

Additionally, the introduction of QR code-based tickets streamlines the boarding process and reduces congestion.

The terminal operates daily from 5am to 11pm, ensuring better accessibility and convenience for commuters. — DayakDaily
