Alexson said the city’s crime index showed a drop from 192 cases this year from Sept 1 to Sept 30, compared to 226 during the same period last year – a 15 per cent drop.

Alexson disclosed this to local media after presenting certificates of appreciation to police personnel of various ranks and administrative staff during the Miri IPD monthly assembly today.

On another note, the city’s scam cases are on the rise, with a total of 18 cases recorded this year for the nine-month period from January to September.

“Miri police have received 18 cases this year for that nine-month period, compared to six cases last year (January to September 2022),” he said.

These scam cases included those falling for love and loan scams as well as Macau and parcel delivery scams.

Alexson advised those who encounter scams to call the National Scam Response Centre hotline at 997 or lodge a report at the nearest police station. — DayakDaily
