MIRI, Oct 18: A total of RM308,127.12 worth of contraband cigarettes and beer were seized by the 12th Battalion General Operation Force (GOF) in Miri during ‘Ops Taring Kontraband’ in Batu Niah on Tuesday morning.
According to Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the contraband was seized during a raid carried out at a double-story house in Niah on Oct 17, at around 8 am, as it was suspected of housing smuggled items.
The house caretaker was also detained.
The seized items included 1,148,160 sticks of white and clove cigarettes and 316 boxes of beer.
Alexson added that the house was used as a transit point before the contraband would be moved to other locations and oil palm plantations. — DayakDaily
