Miri police reclassify man’s death as murder

The suspect has been detained for questioning.

MIRI, May 21: Police have reclassified the case of a man found dead in the back alley of Jalan Boulevard 2A on May 19 from sudden death to murder.

This was disclosed by Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu in a statement today.

The body had wounds on the head, which was believed to have occurred after being hit with a blunt object.

“We have reclassified the case as murder following the result from the post-mortem conducted at Miri Hospital,” he said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the last person seen with the deceased was a local man in his 30s.

Acting on information received, the Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) detained a man at 11.45am at Pujut Corner today for questioning.

Members of the public have been asked not to speculate on the case as it could interfere with the investigation.
