MIRI, Dec 7: Miri City Council’s meet-the-people session today discussed an issue of the filthy, destructive kind — rats.

Due to frequent sightings of these rodents, deputy mayor Julaihi Mohamad said MCC would be launching mass ‘gotong royong’ exercises in stages to get rid of them.

“For starters, we will start with Morsjaya and Miri Open Air Market before implementing it in other places,” he said at the gathering at Senior Citizen Street here.

He, however, did not say when it would start.

Due to the seriousness of the problem, Julaidi urged eatery owners to keep their premises clean at all times as rats could bring diseases.

“It is also crucial for them (eatery owners) not to leave trash unkept,” he said. — DayakDaily
