MARUDI, Aug 9: Travel time between Miri and Marudi will be slashed to just 30 minutes in four years’ time with the completion of the Miri–Marudi–Mulu–Long Lama (MMMLL) Road project, a transformative development set to boost growth in northern Sarawak, particularly for rural communities in the Miri and Baram divisions.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Deputy Minister for Public Health and Housing and Marudi assemblyman Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil described the MMMLL as a “people’s project” that will bring widespread benefits, not only to Marudi but the entire Baram area.
He said the project will open up vast economic opportunities, raise property values, and improve access to essential services such as electricity, clean water, and healthcare for remote villages.
“This road network will transform connectivity in the region and enhance the quality of life for residents in rural areas,” he said during a dialogue session with community leaders, village chiefs, and government agencies was held at the Marudi Civic Centre here on Friday (Aug 8).
The session also provided residents with a direct platform to raise questions and share concerns with the relevant agencies, strengthening two-way communication between the government and the people.
Organised by the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda), the session was attended by about 60 participants.
Also present were Miri Division Acting Resident Doris Ujai Langat, Marudi District Officer Rose Edward Tarang, and Telang Usan District Officer Ezra Uda. — DayakDaily
