MIRI, March 3: Some 6,400 runners from 37 countries have participated in this morning’s Miri Marathon 2024.
Several major roads in the city centre were temporarily closed to make way for the event, which featured multiple race categories for different fitness levels and preferences.
The most prominent race is the full marathon, which covers 42km and tests the runners’ endurance and stamina.
There were also shorter distances available, such as the half marathon (21km) and the 10km and 5km runs, making it accessible to a broader range of participants.
The flag-off for the 42km was done by Minister for Transport Sarawak Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, representing Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The race started at Jalan Merpati, in front of the Permaisuri Imperial City Mall, at 12am today.
The event takes in some of the city’s best-known sites, including Dataran Kipas, beaches along Luak, Bakam, Lutong, and Pujut 7. — DayakDaily
