KUCHING, June 30: A local man in his late 40s lost RM1.5 million after falling prey to an investment scam.
According to the Sarawak Commissioner of Police, Dato Mancha Ata, in early March this year, the victim, a retiree, encountered an unknown individual claiming to be an agent with an investment company.
The suspect then introduced the victim to an investment scheme which promises high returns in a short time.
Enticed with the Freeman Securities Limited investment, the victim communicated with the suspect via WhatsApp and made bank transfers to an account provided by the suspect, amounting to approximately RM1,500,000.
“The victim only realised he was scammed when he wasn’t able to access the investment platform, and the suspect kept asking for additional payments,” he said. — DayakDaily
