KUCHING, March 8: Miri, Kuching and Sibu have been recognised as clean tourist cities after four local authorities clinched the Asean Clean Tourist City Standard 2022-2024 Award at the national-level.
The four—Miri City Council (MCC), Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and Sibu Municipal Council (SMC)—are among seven local authorities in Malaysia which won national level awards.
The award ceremony was held in Kuala Lumpur yesterday and officiated at by Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (Motac) Dato Sri Nancy Shukri.
Miri City Mayor Adam Yii and MCC member Warziedea Ahmad were among those present to receive the award on behalf of MCC at the ceremony.
Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), citing a Motac statement, reported that ten local authorities have received the Asean Clean Tourist City Standard 2022-2024 Award with three at the Asean level and seven at the national level.
The recipients of the award at the Asean level are Penang City Council, Muar Municipal Council, and Langkawi Municipal Council Tourism City.
Meanwhile, the other three recipients for the national level award are Putrajaya Corporation, Kuantan City Council and Terengganu City Council.
Motac organised the event to recognise businesses and stakeholders who have met Asean minimum standards. — DayakDaily
