Miri housewife falls victim to phone scam, loses RM41,500

MIRI, Sept 30: A housewife in Miri recently fell prey to a phone scam and lost RM41,500, according to Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu.

He revealed that the woman’s report was received by the Miri Central Police Station (CPS) on September 28 (Thursday).

“The incident unfolded when the woman in her 60s received a phone call from an individual claiming to be her friend, who then requested financial assistance,” Alexson disclosed.


He added that the victim received the phone call from 01163792013.

“The purported friend explained that her wallet and phone were missing, and her bank account was still in the process of being updated,” Alexson said.

In response, the victim made four bank transactions, totaling RM41,500 in cash.
