MIRI, July 7: The Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) has taken the initiative to create a Welfare Task Force to assist residents who need food aid during Phase One of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
According to Miri DDMC acting chairman Jamalie Busri in a statement, the initiative is a strategical effort by government agencies to assist and coordinate the distribution of assistance to people in Miri in need.
“Miri DDMC has received complaints from the public that there are individuals who manipulate the ‘White Flag’ campaign.
“In spite of that, they do not want to take down the white flag.
“Of course that is not fair because certain quarters have received assistance up to six times even though some people who need it the most do not receive it.
“Hence, Miri DDMC urges those who have been given the food aid to take down the white flag.
“Through the task force which has been created, those who need food aid do not have to raise white flag anymore,” he said.
Jamalie said they can contact the Welfare Task Force at 085-419 073, 085-419 072, 085-424 534 and 085-424 535 or through email at pkmbmirisarawak@gmail.com for further action.
At the same time, Jamalie also welcomed any charitable organisation or non-governmental organisation (NGOs) in Miri to participate in the Welfare Task Force.
He said NGOs who want to participate or be involved in charitable activities during Phase One of NRP in Miri need to contact the secretariat of the Miri Welfare Department in order to register with the Welfare Task Force.
He added all the NGOs who combined under the said task force need to refer to the secretariat first for coordination by the Welfare Officer who will then investigate, coordinate and update the record of assistance before food aid can be delivered by the NGOs to the intended recipients.
Jamalie explained that every assistance provided needs to be reported to the Welfare Department for recordkeeping. — DayakDaily
