Miri City kicks off 18th anniversary festivities by signing MoU with South Korea’s Gochang County

MIRI, May 20: Miri City kicked off its 18th anniversary today by launching its open day at the City Hall in Marina Bay here.

To mark the start of the celebration, Miri City has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a ‘Friendship City’ with Gochang County (Gochang-gun) of South Korea represented by its mayor, Deokseob Shim, while Miri City was represented by its mayor, Adam Yii.

In his opening remarks, Yii said that the MoU is part of their action plan to create an international link for tourism promotion abroad and more mutual benefits.

He added that they are all set under their current strategy to transform Miri City into a smart, vibrant, green, and liveable resort city.

“We recently entered a similar partnership with other cities, namely Wei Hai City of the Shandong Province, China, in 2021,” Yii said.

He said establishing international links is the city’s long-term commitment to friendly exchanges, mutual cooperation, and seeking common interests covering economics, trade, science and technology, culture, education, and tourism to achieve mutual prosperity.
