Miri City Council sees 14 new faces as 32 councillors sworn in, mayor’s term extended to March 2026

MIRI, April 13: A total of 32 councillors were officially sworn in at the Miri City Council (MCC) building today in a ceremony officiated by Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Sarawak Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The new line-up includes 14 fresh appointments alongside returning members whose tenure has been extended.

Among the newly appointed councillors are representatives from Sarawak’s major political parties, with six from the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), six from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), and three and two from the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), respectively.

The fresh faces stepping into council roles include Yusri Ahmad Lai, Abin Galieh @ Aden, Lilla Raja @ Lilla Wong, Thian Siew Lan, Sim Cheng Tiong, Chai Woei Yih, Yee Chung Meng, CHiung Chien Yih, Lau Sie Nguong, Mudin Epui @ Mudin Mekir, Andrew Lee Salin, Lian Tarawe, Eliza Sherance Jamba, and Franklin Kesong.

Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang’s term has been extended until March 2026, reflecting confidence in his leadership, while Deputy Mayor Ariffin Mohamad and the remainder of the councillors will serve until March 2028.

The list of reappointed councillors includes Tan Lek Jin, Romulus Charles Agan Raja, Toh Kah Shiong, Leslie Lau Ik Chie, Huang Huat Choon, Yeo Zhi Chao, Jenny Crystal Mansang, Yu Ley Ha, Raymond Jenang, Saliha Basri, Chia Kah Leong, Jamil Bujang, Huang Hong Siong, Rahim Unsang, Ugat Wan @ Jalong Wan, and Flora Usun Lanyau.

The ceremony also marked a farewell to outgoing councillors who have completed their terms, namely Abdullah Jaini, Dominica Lucia Tingang, Karambir Singh Honey, Bhagwan Singh, Jeffery Phang Siaw Foong, Kueh Chie Tiong, John Trawe Kuda, Goh Khiok Seng, Yap Siew Jin, David Stephen, Rantai Achin, Chin Fook Kim, and Rexsoll Gilum.

Deputy ministers Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, and Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew were also present. — DayakDaily
