Miri, Bintulu among 7 districts issued thunderstorm warnings valid until 9pm (May 20)

KUCHING, May 20: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected in seven districts in Sarawak until 9pm tonight.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in an advisory notice issued at 6.10pm, said the affected districts are Bintulu, Tatau, Sebauh, Miri, Subis, Beluru, and Marudi.

According to the department, a warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with rain intensity greater than 20mm/hour that is approaching or expected to last for more than an hour.

It added that a thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a maximum of six hours per release. — DayakDaily
