Meanwhile, Fenny Chong and Nur Syazwina Sapiee each contributed two bronze medals for the team.

Miri sent 10 archers to participate in the event.

Miri team coach David Ting, described the success as “unbelievable”.

“I’m really proud of my archers…not only did we bag two gold medals in the event, but we brought home five bronze,” he said, when met at King’s Archery at Permaisuri Mall on Sunday during a press conference.

Also present was Piasau assemblyman, Datuk Sebastian Ting.

On another note, Sebastian disclosed the state government is committed to further develop the archery sport amongst youth.

‘I will conveyed David Ting’s suggestion to the (state) government to provide a centre for archery,” he said.

Sebastian added, with such a centre available, he believed it could produced more talented archers in the state.

According to David, 20 primary schools in Kedah have access to archery development, and hence it is crucial for Sarawak to have similar facilities to unearth and produce talented archers.

“Our government should look into this matter and provide facilities for archery,” Sebastian said, adding that he agreed with David’s suggestion to set up archery centres in the state. — DayakDaily
