“The project aims to reduce plastic pollution, increase recycling rates, and alleviate the pressure on landfill space.

“Moreover, the construction of the ‘Miri Green Wall’ could have a lasting impact on environmental awareness and help attract tourists to Miri,” he said during a press conference on Thursday (Jan 9).

The official Guinness World Record attempt is scheduled for Jan 11 and 12.

Currently, Miri Used Goods and Recycling Traders Association chairman Bryan Chia and his team have been working tirelessly for several years to ensure the success of this attempt.

Lee also expressed hopes that this project will reinforce Miri’s status as a green city, having already earned three international recognitions, including two from Unesco and one Guinness World Record.

“This project will not only promote the green concept to the community but also has the potential to attract international tourists in the long term.

“We are exploring the idea of developing an EcoPark using recycled materials, which could serve as an environmental education hub and a sustainable project in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” he added.

Also present at the press conference was Pro Vice Chancellor of Curtin University Professor Simon Leunig. — DayakDaily
