KUCHING, March 28: Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan has presented certificates to assist longhouse headmen (tuai rumah) and chieftains (penghulu) in settling minor issues such as land boundaries, family disputes, customary and cultural matters.

On that note, he advised that some minor issues can be effectively resolved within the community without the involvement of higher authorities. In some matters, they can consult their penghulu or the District office.

He emphasised this in his speech prior to presenting the certificate to 56 tuai rumah and penghulu at his service centre in Balai Ringin, recently, in conjunction with officiating the Kursus Kepimpinan Akar Umbi organised by Pantu District office in collaboration with Balai Ringin sub district office.

The certificate serves as empowerment for them to assist the government in resolving issues within their sphere of influence. This helps reduce the workload of district offices and other government agencies, particularly in facilitating development projects like road construction and similar initiatives.

However, Snowdan stressed that they must exercise this authority judiciously and avoid any misuse.

Meanwhile, he also encouraged the community to improve their IT efficiency and advised community leaders and village security and development committees (JKKK) to conduct their meetings regularly to ensure that the village residents are kept updated on any development.

The workshop was attended by about 450 JKKK members from Pantu District.
