Minor fire breaks out at Kuching Port Authority building, staff evacuated

KUCHING, July 30: Staff members of the Kuching Port Authority on Jalan Pelabuhan were safely evacuated today after a minor fire broke out in the ceiling of the IT and QC manager’s room on the first floor of the building.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency call at 4.29pm and promptly dispatched firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya and Padungan stations to the Pending port terminal.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke emanating from the first floor and immediately commenced efforts to extinguish the fire, which originated from a PVP pipe concealed in the ceiling.

All staff were safely evacuated from the building. Firefighters also carried out cooling and airing operations to clear the smoke from the premises.

The operation concluded at 5.03 pm after the site was confirmed to be safe. — DayakDaily
