Ministry, Swinburne Sarawak, Fondation Rolf Schnyder sign MOU to collaborate on digital literacy

MIRI, Aug 26: The Sarawak Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWKK) today has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak (Swinburne Sarawak) and non-profit organisation Fondation Rolf Schnyder to provide digital literacy classes.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg witnessed the MOU signing ceremony during the Sarawak Preschool International Convention 2022 held at Pullman Miri Waterfront here today.

KPWKK Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the MOU will enable the three parties to conduct “KIDS: Bits and Bytes Foundational Literacy Programme” for children aged five to six years old under SeDidik as a pilot project.


“This program aims to provide computer literacy and coding training and classes for teachers and children to develop vital computational thinking and reasoning skills that are essential for a technology reliant future.

“The foundational computer literacy programme will deliver basic coding and robotic classes to young children in fun, engaging and exciting ways to inculcate lifelong skills such as computer literacy, creativity, problem solving skills, communication, critical thinking, confidence as well as empower the children of today to become the innovators, inventors and leaders of tomorrow,” she said at the event.

During the MOU signing, KPWKK was represented by its principal assistant secretary Salina Bujang while Swinburne Sarawak was represented by Prof Lau Hieng Ho and Fondation Rolf Schnyder by Datin Chai Schnyder. – DayakDaily
