Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak proposes new sailing centre in Sarawak

KUCHING, Aug 9: The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Sarawak has proposed the establishment of a sailing centre in the region.

According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS) on August 8, MYSED Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat stated that currently, Malaysia has only two sailing centres, both located in Peninsular Malaysia — Langkawi and Terengganu.

“We hope the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) will allocate federal funds to build a sailing centre in Sarawak,” Dr Ripin said.

He highlighted that sports sailing could boost the tourism industry while also hosting international events.

Regarding the Malaysia Games (Sukma), Dr Ripin mentioned that the sailing event will utilise the existing facilities at Marina Bay in Miri. — DayakDaily
