Ministry allocates RM500 mln for S’wak’s military upgrades as part of 2024-2030 defence plan

KUCHING, Aug 9: The Malaysia Ministry of Defence (Mindef) has allocated RM500 million for development projects and the upgrading of military assets of the army, air force, and navy in Sarawak.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Defence Minister Dato Sri Mohamed Khaled Nordin stated that these initiatives are part of the defence empowerment plan for Sarawak, spanning the period from 2024 to 2030.

He made these remarks after paying a courtesy call to the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday (Aug 8).

Mohamed Khaled emphasised that Abang Johari fully supports the proposed initiatives, and both parties have agreed to establish a joint team to ensure the smooth implementation of upcoming projects.

Additionally, Mohamed Khaled announced that the federal government will allocate RM42 million for the maintenance of military personnel housing in Sarawak.

These initiatives, he said, reflect Mindef’s commitment to safeguarding Sarawak’s defence and security.

Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Mindef Secretary-General Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, Army Chief General Tan Sri Dato Wira Hafizuddeain Jantan, Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) chief executive Mohammad Ashraf Md Radzi were present. — DayakDaily
