KUCHING, March 20: Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, has emphasised the urgent need to upgrade medical equipment in Bintulu and Sibu following his visit to Siemens Healthineers headquarters in Erlangen, Germany.

During the visit, Tiong explored advanced medical imaging technologies such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT scan), and X-ray systems.

He highlighted that these innovations could serve as valuable references for improving healthcare systems in Malaysia.

“The healthcare systems in Bintulu and Sibu are struggling to keep pace with growing demands, and many existing machines are outdated and in urgent need of replacement,” he said in a Facebook post last night (March 19).

Tiong, who is Bintulu Member of Parliament (MP) and Dudong assemblyman, proposed that the Ministry of Health (MOH) collaborate with the private sector to introduce more advanced medical equipment to hospitals in these areas.

He pointed to X-ray examinations as an example, stating that hospitals equipped with more precise and efficient imaging systems could provide clearer scans more quickly.

This would enable doctors to diagnose conditions with greater accuracy and reduce the need for patients to travel elsewhere for advanced tests.

“In some cases, insufficient facilities even necessitate patient transfers to other locations. I sincerely hope that hospitals in Bintulu and Sibu will continue to enhance their medical equipment, ensuring that patients can access accurate and efficient healthcare locally.

“This would not only reduce unnecessary travel but also improve the overall quality of medical services,” he stated. – DayakDaily
