KUCHING, Jan 7: Parties should trust the Pardons Board on Dato Seri Mohd Najib Razak’s sentence rather than trying to disrupt the country’s growth through desperate measures, says Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing.

In a Facebook post today, he was commenting on the former prime minister, who succeeded in obtaining leave from the Court of Appeal in his appeal relating to his claims of a royal addendum order that would allow him to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest.

According to Malaysiakini, following the Court of Appeal’s decision, opposition leaders have accused Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim of concealing the royal addendum and urged him to resign.

“I am not aware of the details, but since His Majesty the Sultan of Pahang, who was the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at that time, emphasised the importance of maintaining political stability, trust should be given to the Pardons Board instead of trying to cause disruption,” said Tiong, who is also the MP for Bintulu.

In his post, he urged parties to resolve disputes through dialogue and negotiation instead of resorting to ‘hasty’ measures’ for a change in leadership without going through the democratic process of elections.

“Currently, Malaysia’s political landscape has stabilised and the economy is gradually recovering. This is the result of the collective hard work of the government and the people.

“Speculations on a change in the government can affect the government’s momentum in attracting investors which could potentially affect the country’s economy,” he said.

Tiong, who is also the assemblyman for Dudong, further elaborated that before this, the previous government experienced three changes in the prime ministership, causing chaos amongst the people due to political instability and uncertainties.

“I am of the view that Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim should be allowed to complete his five years (as prime minister) so that the unity government can fully implement its initiatives and policies to benefit the people,” he said.

He then added that when the general election arrives, citizens can evaluate the government’s performance in the last five years. If Anwar has failed to perform, then the people have the right to voice their dissatisfaction by voting.

“In this dynamic and rapidly changing world, it is important to prioritise a stable environment that allows Malaysia to focus on economic recovery and growth.

“This is not just for the sake of the country, but also to send a message to the international community that Malaysia is a country that is peaceful and stable and is the best destination for investors,” he said. — DayakDaily
