KUCHING, Aug 12: Sarawak’s special teacher recruitment drive has received over 15,000 applicants to date, says Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
Sagah, who is the Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Sarawak, said, however, that the current open vacancies for teachers in Sarawak are only for about 1,134.
“I hope those (who do not get selected) will not be disappointed because it is a strict process.
“(The selection process) is not only done based on academic results, because the Education Service Commission (ESC) is also interviewing applicants,” he told a press conference held at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) today.
Sagah also thanked the Ministry of Education (MOE) and ESC for the opportunity for Sarawak to conduct the drive for the second time.
“(Through this drive), we hoped that we would be able to address it (teacher shortage).
“This time, we would be able to see where the applicants are from and let’s say that they are from rural areas; we would like for them to teach in their hometowns to avoid the problem of wanting to get a transfer, which is the problem now,” he added. — DayakDaily
