KUCHING, Feb 10: The Sarawak-level Chinese New Year open house has the potential to become an annual State event.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said he would support its inclusion as a yearly event because it benefits the local community.

“Previously, it was only held at the party or association level, but this was held for the first time by the Sarawak government at the State level.

“I do not see anything wrong to hold it every year like other celebrations such as Hari Raya, Gawai, and many others,” he told reporters when met at the Sarawak-level Chinese New Year Celebration 2024 open house held at Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK) today.

Commenting on the Chinese New Year open house event, Abdul Karim said the turnout from the public from every layer of society is encouraging, although it is raining.

“This is our uniqueness, and to some extent, with the organisation of a programme like this, we will be able to strengthen the unity because we can see that it is not only the Chinese community; the communities of other races are all here, to enliven the Chinese New Year celebration even more,” he added. — DayakDaily
