Minister: Health White Paper outlines 4 main pillars to reform nation’s health system

KUCHING, April 27: The Health White Paper outlines four main pillars in reforming the health system in the country which will be debated in Parliament, says Minister of Health Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

She revealed that the four main pillars are the transformation of the service delivery of our healthcare, advancing health promotion and disease prevention, ensuring sustainable and equitable health financing, and lastly strengthening the health systems’ foundations and governance.


“All this is one plan that will take at least 15 years (to finalise), but it is very comprehensive, prioritising accessibility and affordable healthcare. It would fulfill all the wishes of the people no matter where there are in the country,” she told reporters during a press conference after the Health White Paper Townhall Session for Sarawak Zone held at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Auditorium today.

She explained that the Health White Paper, is a national health reform plan document that outlines the main challenges faced by the health system and proposes solutions to ensure a high-quality, sustainable and resilient health system.

“It has been developed by taking into account the input of various stakeholders, including the general public to ensure that it is holistic and inclusive.

Meanwhile, during the Town Hall session, Dr Zaliha said that all the proposals and questions put forward were very encouraging and the matter would be outlined in the White Paper.

“We hoped to get support from Members of Parliament so that we could implement what is outlined in the Health White Paper,” she said.

Also present at the press conference were Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Minister of Health Lukanisman Awang Sauni and Director General Of Health Malaysia Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan. — DayakDaily
