KUCHING, Aug 15: It is important for the current government at both the state and Federal level to comprehend the message voters have sent and work to ensure that Malaysia moves forward in a non-divisive manner, said Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak Minister expressed concern about the ‘unhealthy’ voting trend in the polls, referring to the recently concluded six state polls in Selangor, Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan.
“We have to respect the decision of voters, but the trend of voting was along a line that is not very healthy,” Abdul Karim told reporters after the launch of ‘What About Kuching’ (WAK) 2023 Festival’s Call-for-Proposals (CFP)’ held today at Baitul Makmur II, Petra Jaya here.
He went on to say that Sarawak was fortunate not to have problems with divisiveness among its people.
“However, we must consider the signals sent by voters in order to formulate policies and continue to harmonise our society.
“I also hope that the people of Sarawak appreciate our government’s efforts and are not swayed by politics in other parts of Malaysia,” he remarked.
Abdul Karim, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president, stated that Sarawak is fortunate to have leaders who are understanding and tolerant of those of other faiths.
“If we continue on this path, we will become the ones that others will look up to as a role model,” he added.
In a historic electoral collaboration, Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) successfully secured three states – Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Penang in the state polls on Saturday (Aug 12).
In contrast, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition of Bersatu, PAS, and Gerakan retained power in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu. — DayakDaily
