KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30: Contractors under the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela) encounter difficulty to build telecommunication towers in Lubok Antu as the identified sites involve native land.
Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Teo Nie Ching said the contractors have to find suitable locations that fulfil the technical requirements including line of sight for network signal.
“In rural areas (including Lubok Antu), most of the sites are native lands which posed as a problem to the contractors in identifying the landowners and getting their permission so that the towers can be built there.
“Apart from that, no access tar road and electricity connection were among the challenges for the implementation of Jendela,” she said when responding to Roy Angau Gingkoi (GPS-Lubok Antu) during question time in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Earlier, she also informed that as of second quarter of this year, two out of 37 towers for Lubok Antu constituency have been completed and are now operational at Marup Baroh and Jelukong, while the remaining 35 towers are still at various stages of implementation.
She also said 52 transmitter stations have been upgraded.
“Apart from that, 543 out of 2,820 premises have been provided with fiber optic connections and all 26 locations planned for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) via satellite connectivity are now operational.
“All initiatives are expected to complete and operational in stages by end of 2025,” she added. — DayakDaily
