KUCHING, March 16: Federal Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development Dato Sri Nancy Shukri has called for the review of the poverty rate measurement in Sarawak to reflect data accuracy and ensure effective targeted assistance.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) news report today, Nancy welcomed the request by the Sarawak government to avoid an inaccurate representation, especially in the context of a rich State but still labelled as having a high poverty rate.
According to her, the realignment of the eKasih database is important because there may be individuals who are no longer considered poor but are still registered under it.
“So, it (eKasih data) needs to be restructured because there are indeed many who are not considered poor anymore but are still in eKasih.
“The government is always trying to improve the situation in various ways, so we hope this matter can be addressed as soon as possible,” she said when met by reporters after the ‘Juh Shopping Raya’ programme at a local department store in Petra Jaya today.
Nancy said this in response to Minister for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who proposed that the government review the poverty rate measurement.
