KUCHING, March 2: The reimposition of the cabotage policy will create more spin-off effects by supporting the domestic shipping eco-system in Sarawak, says Minister of Transport Sarawak Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

In a statement today, Lee said it would also increase the involvement of local shipping companies and related services and provide more jobs for local seafarers and other logistic supply chain services.

“The reinstatement of the Cabotage Policy will reduce the outflow of foreign exchange earnings of ocean freight and instead will contribute greatly to the savings and earnings for Sarawak,” he said.

He added that the reinstatement of the Cabotage Policy will protect the domestic shipping operators and shipbuilding industries.

Yesterday, the Federal Cabinet decided to reimplement the cabotage policy for cargo services to Sarawak. — DayakDaily
