Midnight inferno nearly destroys 2 cars in Pekan Batu Niah, Miri; no casualties reported

MIRI, June 1: Two cars parked in the parking lot in front of MK Hardware and Household Centre in Pekan Batu Niah here were severely damaged after catching fire.

A statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said a team of firefighters from Batu Niah fire station was deployed to the location after they received a call at 12.09am today.

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the fire involved two cars: a white Honda Accord with registration number VFE 7777 and a black Toyota Fortuner VRZ with registration number PQK 7777, both of which were 80 per cent burned.

“The cars were parked, and no victims were involved,” said the statement.

It went on to say that the firefighters carried out extinguishing operations until the fire was completely extinguished, and they also installed barriers around the burning vehicle.

The operation ended at 12.50am, after the firefighters ensured the situation was completely safe. — DayakDaily
