In a statement dated Jan 7, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also encouraged those Malaysians to keep themselves abreast of the security situation in the areas they reside in or are visiting.

Malaysians who have yet to register themselves with the Malaysian diplomatic mission are also advised to do at the nearest embassy or consulate general of Malaysia.

Registration may be done via e-mail and the details of the Malaysian embassies/consultates general in the Middle East and Gulf Region may be accessed from the ministry’s website at https://www.kln.gov.my/web/guest/malaysian-mission

Due to the temporary closures of the Malaysian embassies in Iraq, Syria and Yemen, registration and consular services are provided through the following embassies:

– Iraq (Embassy of Malaysia in Amman, Jordan)
– Syria (Embassy of Malaysia in Beirut, Lebanon)
– Yemen (Embassy of Malaysia in Muscat, Oman)

The ministry advised Malaysians to defer nonessential travel to the region, in particular to areas where the security situation is critical. — DayakDaily
