KUCHING, March 20: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has announced that the Inter-Monsoon Phase is expected to begin on March 25 and will continue through May 2025, with Sarawak among the areas likely to experience heavy rains and thunderstorms.

According to a notice issued today, this phase marks the official end of the Northeast Monsoon 2024/2025, which began on November 5, 2024.

During this transition period, light and variable winds from multiple directions are expected to influence weather patterns across the country.

In Sarawak, as well as western and inland parts of Peninsular Malaysia and parts of Sabah, this weather pattern could lead to thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and strong winds over short periods, particularly in the late afternoon and early evening.

These conditions may also trigger flash floods and structural damage in areas with weak infrastructure.

MetMalaysia cautioned the public to remain vigilant and stay updated with weather forecasts and warnings issued through its official website, the myCuaca mobile app, and the department’s social media platforms.

For further information or urgent weather-related inquiries, the public may contact MetMalaysia’s hotline at 1-300-22-1638. — DayakDaily
